Bucket Lists: Making the Most of Dreams

Jonathan Carr, Staff Writer

A bucket list is a list of activities that someone would like to do sometime in their life. Bucket lists can motivate people to stop procrastinating and to do what they have always dreamed of. The students and staff of Hollis Brookline High School have some unique items on their lists.

“I want to jump off a really tall building into a lot of pillows,” said Brian Delaney ‘17.  Delaney said this because “He like[s] the rush of energy that scary things give [him].” Thrill- seekers like Delaney have similar bucket list items, that give them an adrenaline rush.

On the other hand, there are people who just want to travel. Eric Perry, Physics teacher at HB, wants to visit a redwood forest. Perry has never seen the redwoods in person but has wanted to for a while. “I want to wrap my arms around a big redwood tree,” he said.

Like Perry, Aidan Canfield ‘18 wants to travel to a unique part of the earth.  He said,  “I want to travel to Germany. They make really good sausage.”

Garrett Poulin ‘18 doesn’t have many items on his bucket list, but what he does have is somewhat common. Poulin said, “I want to get my high school diploma and am excited to see what my future holds for me.” Poulin’s list might not seem very difficult to accomplish, but it is very important to him.

Having a bucket list holds a different meaning for everyone. One staff member in particular has a different view on bucket lists:English teacher Michael Fox does not want to travel or do exciting things. “My bucket list items are very short term,” he said. As most HB staff and students know, Fox is full of wisdom and knowledge. Fox said, “I like to be able to please myself in the moment.”

Everyone has something that they want to do at some point in their lives. Whether it’s travel or excitement, dreams bring people to do great things.
