As the 2018 HBHS Girls Softball team prepares for yet another season, they find themselves met with a few “game changers”.

Longtime head coach and Spanish teacher Erin Robbins has resigned from her position as Varsity head coach, allowing Brian Bumpus, school Athletic Director and former Assistant Coach, to become the Varsity Head Coach. By his side will be Tracy Gray, school gym teacher, to take the role of Varsity Assistant Coach as well.

Team tryouts lasted from March 19-21, where every athlete competed for her spot on the varsity team.

“I am excited to work with a varsity team… I have only worked getting people ready for varsity as a JV coach. It will be exciting to see a different level of play,” said new assistant coach Gray.

New coaching means a shift in dynamics for the team. “I think Bumpus is going to be pretty laid back, which is nice, and TGray will do a lot of workouts with us, so I am a little nervous for that… but [the season] should be good,” said Cassidy Pigott, ‘19, who is a returning varsity member and contributes greatly to the HBHS team. Pigott looks forward with an “open mind” about the coaching change and her third season on the team.

There is so much to look forward to from the girls this year. “We wait patiently for spring to come all year because we all love coming together…we are a really close-knit group of girls,” said senior Captain Avery Webb.

The first game is on April 11 in Milford at 4:00 pm. The team will play most of their games on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays this spring.
