Quiz bowl: HB going for a strike
Where do students have another opportunity to prove their knowledge outside of the classroom? Most would say regular extracurriculars are enough, but now there’s the Quiz Bowl club, or formally known as Granite State Challenge.
The team participates in competitions where they are asked questions based on different school subjects. The whole thing is very similar to the TV show, Jeopardy. The group is consisted of 8-10 people, and the first group competing will be seniors Grant Johnson, Anish Thilagar, Conor O’Shea, Cameron Randlett, Tim Udelsman, Alex Merryman, and Jacob Solon. They compete against other schools for prizes, and with that, if they go far enough, is the potential possibility that the Hollis Brookline crew will be on TV.
The two founders, Grant Johnson ‘14 and Anish Thilagar ‘14 brought the idea to the administration. As well as founding the club, Johnson and Thilagar are also the captains. “Anyone can join. However, where you’re placed on the team is up to the advisors and the captains.” said Johnson.
The advisors of Mr. Wilcox, and Mrs. McDaniel have been working hard to make a successful crew. Advisor Mr. Wilcox said, “It looks like we have a promising group. The first crew is seniors, but we are trying to incorporate students from other grades as well.”
The first competition will be November 9 at Merrimack High School.
