Sneak peak: boys basketball
November 13, 2013
As the cold weather approaches and the first snows of the season hit the ground, the winter sports season begins; but no team is as highly anticipated as the boys basketball team.
Finishing last year with a record of 14-4, the team is coming off of a successful season. Losing star point guard Connor Walsh, the team looks up to Matt Fothergill, ’15, to step up and take the roll in which the bar was set so high. “Connor and I are completely different players. I plan on playing my own game and working hard.”
Senior center Shea Whalen has high hopes for his final season here at HB. “We have a special group of guys this year, and it’s about time we bring this school a state championship”
Off season preparation is the foundation of their success. The boys’ basketball team does off-season workouts all year, enduring all of Coach Soucy’s grueling workouts.
Fans are a crucial part of the teams success, and no other school packs the gym like Hollis Brookline does. Emmett Craggy, ’14, knows all too well about getting rowdy for our boys in blue. Craggy says, “Team’s looking good with Shea Whalen at center. If the fans show, so will the team. Going to be a good season.”
The boys will be a strong team this year, they just have to work hard for it. The games start in early December.
