Hollis Brookline High School (HBHS) is known for many things such as academics, sports and community, but having extravagant celebrations is not one of them.
In past years at Hollis Brookline, homecoming has returned to the school mostly because of student requests. Homecoming has only recently become an HBHS tradition. “It’s definitely a student-oriented event. The new tradition of it has been because it’s a want from students,” said senior class president Finn Brown ‘25.
This leads to a couple of questions. Why was homecoming never really a thing at HBHS What is a homecoming like at other schools? “At GD [Groton Dunstable] homecoming is not that big of a deal, not a lot of people talk about it. I know it seems like a big thing at other schools but at GD it is really humble,” said Groton-Dunstable Regional High School student Delaney Lavelle ‘25. This is similar to the opinions of HBHS students about homecoming. “Honestly I think it is overrated because like it’s fun and all but it is not the biggest thing to happen here. Every other school makes it bigger,” said HBHS student Lauren Kennedy ‘25.
But does every other school make it bigger or are we just picturing what we see in movies? Mrs. Catauro, a teacher at HBHS, says homecoming isn’t about having an extravagant dance but rather, “a unification of school pride.”
Approximately 150 people went to homecoming this year. Will you be attending next year?
