On Nov. 13, the Hollis Brookline High School (HBHS) Red Cross Club hosted its first blood drive of the school year. The drive was held in the mini gym throughout the school day.
In the weeks leading up to the event, club members spent time recruiting students and staff to sign up for the blood drive during lunches. The club’s hard work paid off as the event collected 29 units of blood, which can help save up to 87 lives.
The blood drive attracted both first-time and experienced donors. While the Red Cross incentivizes donors with a gift card upon completion, some students had other reasons for donating. “In my brain, I was like, ‘People need blood, I have blood, I can give that to them,’” said first-time donor Cassidy Krivis ‘25.
The Red Cross Club is looking forward to hosting another blood drive in the spring. In the meantime, they are holding their annual Holiday Cards for Heroes party on Tuesday, November 19.
