Midterms can be a stressful time for students as 10% of your grade for the semester is affected by final grades. Midterms are usually tests or projects that are based on all material covered throughout the semester.
The Hollis Brookline High School chapter of the National Honor Society (NHS) has recognized this issue and taken the matter into its own hands. NHS came up with the idea of creating care packages for students to support them through this stressful and demanding couple of weeks. NHS member Chloe Gisetto ‘25 shares the plans for what the package will consist of. “It may include fidget toys, granola bars, motivating affirmations written on paper, pens and pencils and other snacks students will enjoy,” she said.
NHS decided to put mints, tissues, chapstick, note cards and more. The main goal of all the items is to encourage and boost pupils.
There are many other ways to manage stress without purchasing a care package. Student Cynthia Chau ‘25 expresses her philosophy of getting through midterms. “I honestly try to remember that midterms are not the end of the world and do not define me as a student to lower my stress levels,” she said.
It’s important to acknowledge that midterms are simply a reflection of your comprehension throughout the semester, and all one can do is study and review past material. Midterms do not dictate one’s entire semester grade, but they do count for 10% of one’s overall grade for year-long classes and 20% for semester-long classes.
Midterms will begin on Jan. 21 and end on Jan. 24, so revising and studying now will be most beneficial.
