Pickleball is one of America’s fastest-growing sports, with people of all ages coming together to enjoy this simple paddle sport. The case is no different here at Hollis Brookline High School (HBHS), with the new Pickleball Club formed by President Ronan Finnegan ‘25 and Vice President Brynn Spencer ‘25.
Finnegan was inspired to found the club in hopes of sharpening his skills. “I was inspired to start the club after my grandmother beat me in the game repeatedly. I started the club to get better so I can win in a one-v-one,” said Finnegan.
The newly-founded club already has a substantial group of students with around 15 people, most of whom are seniors. The club functions around a prize-based tournament system where whoever wins gets the chance to win prizes chosen by the president and vice president. The skill level of the Pickleball Club varies from those who are very competitive to people who barely know how to play, giving everyone a chance to have a good time.
In time, Pickleball Club could transform into a larger extracurricular activity. “I see it growing to become a very large and important club in HBHS’s culture. It brings a lot of people together through an easy and accessible game. I can see it becoming more involved with the school and its students,” said Spencer.
With this confidence from one of the club’s main contributors, many people are sure to pop in at Nichols Field and the HBHS gym to get their game on.
