Every few months the well-known sports energy drink brand, Monster Energy, releases a new drink flavor. Their energy drink flavors range from super sweet and tropical, to teas and even coffee flavors. Recently, Monster Energy released a new flavor called Ultra Vice Guava which is a part of the Monster Energy Ultra collection which contains fourteen different flavors.
When receiving the energy can, you are hit with a super bright teal color, resembling a tropical ocean with pink and white accents colors. The can itself has tiny bumps for a comfortable hold on it. As you take the first sip, your taste buds explode with a carbonated water taste with a slight hint of guava or sweet fruit. The overall taste is super underwhelming compared to the rest of the flavors in this collection. This drink isn’t sweet and the flavor seems like it just disappears, leaving you with a disappointed feeling, like waking up to a rainy day; it’s honestly just super boring.
Normally, the Monster Energy Ultra Collection brings me back to when I was in Hawaii, drinking the Monster in the car while driving next to the ocean and under the bright sun. However, this flavor didn’t bring me back to that summer, careless vibe. It was just a bland drink.
After experiencing this bland Monster flavor, I interviewed some avid Monster drinkers to hear their thoughts on it. When Caitlyne Herman ‘25 tried it, she made a confused face saying, “It honestly has barely any taste, pretty much like a carbonated, water-downed, Capri Sun.” I agreed with her completely because there was some taste to it, but it was so underwhelming. Guinevere Ambrose ‘23 tried it and said, “It tastes exactly like Ultra Rosa, so it is not unique at all and hurts my teeth for some weird reason.” In my opinion, her description wasn’t too off, besides the fact that Ultra Rosa has way more flavor than this drink.
The Sports Energy Drink brand Monster Energy normally releases amazing flavors, but this one was simply not that good. I would recommend trying the other drinks in this collection first because Ultra Vice Guava was simply just alright.
