With the help of Assistant Athletic Director Jordan Scott, the Hollis Brookline sports community has been able to come together and help donate to local food drives and fundraisers through a partnership with Hannaford Supermarket.
Several athletes from Hollis Brookline’s fall and spring sports attended the field trip for the fundraiser, with budgets in mind. They were split up into two groups, each group given a list. they got inside, each group competitively raced into the store, scrambling to find all of the items on their list first.
“The goal was to buy much-needed groceries in order to help our community. I believe we had a budget of $200 so we made sure to buy a lot of stuff.” HB Football Captain, Philip Berke, said. Most of the items included canned goods, pasta, and water etc.
The athletes of Hollis Brookline also were kind enough to add on more food to the budget. Cam Nichols, a teammate of Philip Berke, said “ We met our budget and got all the necessary things we needed and extra,” showing that they went above and beyond with the budget to help towards the fundraiser.
On the field trip, the athletes were rewarded with the fact that they helped out in the homeless and poor community.“I did enjoy being able to skip school to be able to still do something good out of it, and I enjoyed talking to some people I’ve never really talked to,” Elise Brodhurst said, helping grow the HB community closer.
Many are wondering if this will happen again, and the answer is yes. The athletics department will be holding another $200 fundraiser for the winter season, and if you’re an HB athlete you are able to help contribute toward helping those in need.
