Last year, during the 2023 season, the Hollis-Brookline Varsity Boys Football team lost their game against Milford High School by a score of 12-41. The two teams will square off again on September 20 at 7 p.m. on the HB home turf.
Despite both teams getting off to a slow start so far, the Cavaliers (0-2) and Spartans (0-2) are excited to have a competitive game against each other. “It doesn’t matter who we’re playing. It doesn’t matter if we’re playing the best team, the worst team, or a team with the same skill level as us, we’re confident that we can win because we know we’re doing it as a team,” Spartans varsity player Brady O’Connor ‘27 said.
The confidence demonstrated by both teams this year shows that the game can go in any direction.
“Hollis Brookline has shown some improvement over the first couple of games, so we’ll have to make sure we perform up to our best possible standard to win the game,” Spartans head coach Max Morelli said.
The Cavaliers are remaining headstrong for the upcoming game, regardless of their previous losses, with the captains being their driving force of confidence.
“They hype us up, so we’re ready, and they make sure we have fun with it,” Cavaliers varsity player Cole Duncan ‘27 said about his team captains
Exhibiting their drive for improvement, the Cavaliers are giving every game their all until the last second, no matter the score. “Not many people give us a chance, so you have to hold the hope of still winning, even if you don’t believe it,” Cavaliers captain Dylan Morelli ‘25 said.
The Spartans athletes are hopeful to add a win to their record, demonstrating persistent determination throughout their season. “I think I just have to give credit to the kids more than anything. They’ve been working really hard, showing up on the field, a little more invested this year and a little more committed to everything,” Coach Morelli said.
The Spartan’s positive mindset, along with their consistent effort will be put to the test this Friday.
“We want to really drive what we have been working on in practice, converting what we have been practicing to the game and come on strong,” Spartans captain Kadyn Tessier ‘25 said.
