The Hollis-Brookline boys basketball team won their first playoff game of 2014 this past Wednesday beating Coe-Brown 41 to 23. Senior captains Daniel Bentall, ‘14, and Logan Blake, ‘14, led the offensive charge, each contributing 13 points. On the opposite end of the court, Shea Whalen, ‘14, was the main defensive force in holding the Bears’ score to a minimum with a whopping 9 blocked shots. The win against Coe-Brown is the first step to the boys’ journey to the championship at UNH.

The Cavaliers play a 7 p.m. away game again this Saturday, March 8, trying to fend off the number three seed, Lebanon, in the Division II quarterfinals. Whalen said, “If we work our new defense correctly, we can shut down any team like number two Portsmouth we defeated earlier this year. Our offense has been running smoothly as well so as long as we keep that up I think that we can make it to the ‘ship.”

Although the Cavs are currently ranked sixth, they have the stamina and endurance to stick with the top teams in Division II including number two ranked Portsmouth who they beat during regular season play as Whalen explained. The boys in blue are hopeful of putting up another banner on the walls of the Hollis-Brookline gymnasium at the conclusion of their season. The playoff road ahead of them is a treacherous one but they most definitely have the willpower to prove that they are the top team. Good luck to the Cavaliers on Saturday, March 8 as they take on Lebanon.
