Ever since Spider-Man first returned to the big screen in 2012 after the infamous Tobey Maguire trilogy, Marvel fans have been buzzing and waiting for the sequel to the first Amazing Spider-Man film, featuring Andrew Garfield as the web-slinging star. On May 2, 2014, Spider-Man fans finally had the chance to see the next edition of the film series, and were not disappointed with the result of their wait.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 introduced fans to multiple new characters, such as Max Dillon/the villain Electro, played by Jamie Foxx, and Harry Osborn, played by Dane DeHaan, who both play vital roles in the film and add to the overall story for Peter Parker. Some important characters returned from the new series’ first film, such as Gwen Stacy, played by Emma Stone, who brought the usual romantic aspect to the film for Parker, and also added depth to the new movie in more ways than one. While some of the actors casted in the film may have planted a seed of doubt into the minds of Spider-fans about the movie’s overall quality, they all had a surprising chemistry with each other, and delivered a solid, deep product for the fans, with a mix of action, comedy, and even romantics. With some large expectations coming into the film, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 did a great job of meeting all of them, and possibly even exceeding them, in the minds of some fans.

With great action and a nice flow to the fight scenes in the film, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 does its job as a superhero movie, but also, like any movie, has some flaws to it. While the acting and special effects add a great aspect to the film, there were moments in certain scenes where too much is crammed into one scene, and affects how the viewer sees the scene as a whole. Some scenes had great action and a great story to them, but there would be small additions or special effects that end up taking away the magic of the scene, and end up affecting the film as a whole. Even with these moments, however, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is a solid film with a great story full of depth and action, and would appeal to any movie fan around the world.
