Sydney Speir ‘19 is a senior at Hollis Brookline High School and a staff writer for the CavChron. Outside of school, she enjoys being outdoors and hanging out with friends. This year marks Sydney’s first exposure to the world of journalism and she is excited to bring a new perspective to the CavChron.

Mattress fundraiser posters can be found all around Hollis Brookline High School. According to Barbosa, advertisement will play a big part in the financial success of the fundraiser. “I think we did [the mattress fundraiser] about seven or eight years ago to mild success, but that was with a choir teacher that was part time instead of full time, so the advertisement for it wasn’t pushed as much,” said Barbosa.

Ulrich, like many other seniors, wore her college apparel for National College Decision Day on May 1. “It was kind of sad seeing everyone in their college stuff. It just made it feel real that we are all really leaving in a few months,” said Ulrich. “But I’m excited.”

The school snack line is the perfect place to see the abundance of unnecessary packaging. From chips to beef jerky, everything is packaged in large. Often times, this packaging can be excessively large for the sole purpose of advertisement space. “I think as a society, we are used buying a lot of packaged goods that come in containers, whether thats food packaging or products on Amazon,” said Carson.

On Monday, Feb. 18, students attending the trip met at Souhegan High School. The group of about 150 choir and band students put on a concert which consisted of the songs they would all perform at Disney Springs. “Working with other schools is even good for conductors. The winning gingerbread house, titled “The Slammer,” was a miniature version of a prison, complete with pretzel fences and candy barbed wire. “It was a great experience creating this masterpiece with my group,” said Brodie Kelly ‘19, one of the creators of the winning gingerbread house. Her other group members included Natalie Cook ‘19, Ryan Coutu ‘20, and Chelsea Macnamara ‘19.

According to Lones ‘19, the team has matured even in the four weeks following their first game. “I think the team itself hasn’t changed that much but as for the mentality and the vibe our team brings it has changed quite a bit.
