TJ McKenna ‘20 is a senior at Hollis Brookline High School and a writer for the CavChron. While he’s not writing, TJ plays for the varsity soccer and volleyball teams. He is constantly watching sports and obsessing over his fantasy teams as well as cheering on the other athletic teams at the high school. TJ also enjoys gathering with friends at Nichol’s field to play overly competitive pickup basketball games, flag football, and spikeball. TJ participates in the community by coaching numerous youth flag football teams at Nichol’s field in Hollis and at the Hampshire Dome in Milford. He is a lover of dogs and has four of his own; two anatolian shepherds named Mack and Myra, a maltipoo named Ruggy, and a bernedoodle named Dexter. He is looking forward to writing for the CavChron and hopes his personal experiences and hobbies can have a positive impact on it’s sports section by writing stories about sports at both our school and on higher levels. In the future, he is looking forward to attending college and is currently undecided on what he would like to study there.

Quinten, Sander and I pose to show how we will be representing Hollis-Brookline in its efforts to support Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center and its patients. The three of us will be running a fundraising page for people to provide donations to the organization. “I’m not sure how big of a role playing in the game itself has on the CHaD organization, but I know the game itself plays a major role because it donates all of the money it makes to the betterment of CHaD kids,” said Sander Wimmer ‘20. We intend to hold an event that will help raise money for the organization in the near future.

The HBDS Warriors fight for the puck in the offensive zone against the ConVal-Conant Griffins. The HBDS Warriors are off to their best start in the last ten years, carried by their high powered, high energied offensive units. “So far we’ve been pretty good, but our schedule is getting a little tougher for the second half of the season. The fans will probably see the same consistency and we’ll show just how good we are,” said assistant captain Jared Sanborn ‘20.

Local convenience stores are packed with various vape and tobacco products. Stores all around the state have put up signs to detail the legal age change, which will hopefully result in less underage people having access to the products. “I feel like younger kids that do it only do it to look cool, but people who started it to look cool definitely have a problem,” said a group of HB students.

The NFL Honors will be held on Feb. 1, 2020 in Miami, FL. The 2019-2020 NFL season brought upon new stars, intense games, and an overall entertaining and exciting season. Sophomore Aidan Dufoe predicted the MVP and said, “I think Lamar Jackson should win the MVP this year. Not only did he have incredible stats, but he managed to turn a 9-7 team to a 14-2 number 1 seed. I believe he is the clear MVP.”

A Hollis-Brookline student uses TikTok during class instead of paying attention to the lecture. The social media app has teens all over the world distracted from their daily activities, such as school, homework and jobs. “I spend one to two hours every day,” said Peyton O’Connor ‘20.

The H.B.D.S. Warriors look ahead to the upcoming 2019-2020 season with high expectations. The Warriors finished 9-9 last year, but have already started their preseason captain’s practices to improve this year and have their best season in team history. “I hope to lead my team to another playoff berth and maybe win that playoff game,” said Chris Slater ‘20, “Last year, we came really close, we lost in double overtime in the first round, but I expect more this year, and I’ll put it on myself to make that happen.”

Residents of Hollis and Brookline take time out of their day to put up some grand decorations to encourage the Halloween spirit. Unfortunately, some pesky high schoolers have torn down some of these decorations over the years, leaving those who took the time to put them up very discouraged. “You get the kids that throw eggs at the houses, throw eggs at cars. You have kids take [decorations] from people’s yards and put it in the middle of the road,” said Officer Bob Pelletier.

Blake Bergerson ‘21 reals in a long touchdown pass from quarterback Sander Wimmer ‘20. The Hollis Brookline Cavaliers football team went 1-1 without their star wide receiver Quinten Wimmer ‘20, but the emergence of some promising young talent proved to be a bright spot for the team. “I knew I would have to step it up for us to do well,” said Bergerson.
