With Instagram being used almost everyday by teenagers and adults, you wonder if they notice the changes being made in the app? The answer is yes, they notice more than one would think. I asked a couple of students at HB how they felt about the new Instagram update and they all had strong opinions on this topic.
Marshall Tamposi, an avid Instagram user who loves to repost reels had a tough time with updates and thinks, “It’s very confusing and not user friendly.” Tamposi is so used to swiping to the reels, but now they are direct messages, so it’s easy to see how that messes up his whole vibe. I asked Tamposi what he would change about the new update, and he thought Instagram should revert it to how it was before and keep it like that forever.
Next, I asked Angelina Dillberg, another active user of Instagram, what she thought of the updates. Dillberg believes that this is a difficult change because her muscle memory is not used to the new layout. “I don’t think it was necessary, they were just doing stuff to do stuff,” said Dillberg. She understands however how Instagram is now all about reels and why they made the change. Dillberg is not a fan of the buttons on the bottom of the screen and when asked what she would change, she made it clear that the buttons should just move overall.
Lastly, Colin Garrity was asked these questions, and he approached these questions with more of an open mind. Garrity does not have much thought toward the update and actually likes it if anything. He believes this was a good change because the reels have more of an easy button to access.
Garrity said the “layout is more involved with talking to other people”.
Overall instagram is a social media app, talking and communicating to people is the whole point.
