As water is the most important element of all our lives, having a consistent and clean supply of it is a necessity in our lives. This fact is no different on the school grounds. For the optimal performance for students, they must be properly hydrated at all times.
However, this may not always be possible here at Hollis Brookline High School. This is because the main source of water for everyone in the building, the water fountains, are often faulty and produce subpar water.
For extended periods of time, the fountains of Hollis Brookline High School have had their filter status set on an alarming red, which means that they were in dire need of maintenance. However, these fountains would go on to be unchecked for weeks on end, failing to supply students with proper hydration. Hollis Brookline student Ava Barry states, “The filter is on red and doesn’t get fixed for weeks.”
The quality of the water from these fountains fails to meet the standard in any way. The taste of the water is slightly metallic and many unknown particles can be clearly visible. Miro Lao, another student at Hollis Brookline, states, “The water tastes awful and I have to bring my own from home”. The water here is so bad that many students take measures to bring water from home. However, knowing if you will have enough drinkable water should not be the student’s concern in the school. Their focus should be directed to their studies instead.
In order to have students at their peak potential, they must first be hydrated. With these faulty fountains being the sole supplier of free water in the building, this poses a problem for the hydration among students.
