Have you ever wondered what HB students like to do in their free time? Outside of school everyone has hobbies. Some people like to run, play sports, join clubs and others may like to read, and write. It’s interesting to see how a side hobby could guide students to their future careers.
As a student at HB, I myself have taken into account the variety of different hobbies other students and friends have picked up. The most popular hobby I have seen is drawing, painting, and art. There is an immense amount of talent dispersed throughout the grades and friend groups. I found that in most friend groups there was at least one person who had a secret talent of drawing!
Although drawing seems to be the most popular there is a wide variety of activities students like to participate in. Junior, AJ Thibault reported her favorite hobbies are skiing and playing soccer. “I started skiing and playing soccer when I was around 2 years old”, this young athlete has found her passion at a young age. Some hobbies foreshadow the future career or path of interest for students. Although Adrienne says, “I don’t plan to pursue soccer in college, but I would love to someday own a ski house and teach my children how to ski. It is something I want to do for the rest of my life.”
As a sophomore Ysa Ramas has shown an undeniable talent and passion for her art work that has made an impression on many people. “ I like to draw portraits and characters, really anything I like.”
She started writing when she was very little but started taking it seriously when she was in the 7th grade.
But don’t be mistaken this is not her only talent. As a sophomore, Ysa has started her first book: “I am writing a story about a dystopian world where the government is falling apart from the inside, the world knows it but no one is doing anything about it.” Ysa hopes to focus on art in the future but will write as a side business so that she can put her ideas out into the world.
Similarly senior, Oliva Laub loves to draw but she focuses her talent in the nail tech industry. “My favorite hobby is definitely doing my nails, I started about two and a half years ago”. Of course she also loves to hang out with her friends, especially going out, shopping, getting dinner, etc. Oliva has run a nail business in high school which has been successful but all good things must come to an end. “I don’t plan to pursue this because I think in college it would be too much time and effort on top of the work load.”Some hobbies stay hobbies, but the experience is just as important.
Each grade has shown an abundant amount of talent. HB students have proved time and time again that their academic stats are not the only things they have to be proud of. The dedication, time and effort, and support that this community has, has made all of these hobbies possible.
