Wearing #33, representing the Hollis Brookline boys basketball team, I give you Alton ‘the slam dunk’ Williams. Alton Williams is a senior here at Hollis Brookline and is one of three captains on the Hollis Brookline Basketball team alongside Dillon Kelly and James Arthur. Alton has set one goal while playing here at Hollis Brookline. That goal is “Winning that chip!” So how will Alton do that? We’re gonna find out.
At a younger age, basketball wasn’t even in Alton’s vocabulary, as he and most of his friends played soccer and flag football. His 10 year old self saw himself in the future as “Being a professional soccer player.” When Alton was a kid, he said he “looked up to Lionel Messi as a kid and wanted to be just like him.” As years began to flow by, he grew taller and slowly started to grow closer to basketball, and that’s when it all started.
With a slow start Alton’s freshman year, he was still putting the pieces of high school basketball together. As he progressed through his next year of basketball at HB, it was clear he was an extraordinary hooper. Once Alton mastered the slam dunk, he slowly became a defender’s worst nightmare. He stood in the top 10 leading point scorers in New Hampshire the entirety of his junior and currently his senior season, and also won player of the week his junior season and was nominated this year.
When asking Alton who helped him reach these opportunities in sports, Alton said, “All my Amateur Athletic Union coaches, and my parents of course helped me get into the sport.”
As Alton progresses through his final season of basketball at Hollis Brookline, he will want to continue his journey of basketball, maybe making it to the big leagues! But at first “going at least division three for college basketball, preferably at Endicott or Nichols College.” And if you haven’t come to catch a game and see what all the chat is about, come see the next game and if you don’t know Alton, you’ll soon find out.
